My background and experience
I read Philosophy, Politics and Economics at Oxford continuing with Post Graduate studies in London before taking a Masters Degree and teaching Economics in London and Manchester.
I then joined Mercuri Urval, a European Management Consultancy focused on people development and improving the alignment of business strategies. By the late 1980s I was running the Manchester office and in charge of international training and development.
In the 1990s I became HR Manager at General Accident, a FTSE100 Company, leading major change initiatives to help turnaround, re-structure and grow the business by developing more effective leadership and management.
Since 1998 I have been an Independent Consultant and Chartered Director, working as an Associate with Henley Management College and now as a Lecturer for the Institute of Directors, Salford University and Isle of Man Business School. I have extensive board-level experience in the public and private Sectors - from Plcs to SMEs - as a consultant, executive and non executive.
Banking & Insurance: Led strategic reviews; managed merger and integration projects; assessed managers; introduced performance management systems; developed training, team building and customer management processes.
Broking: Generated growth strategies; developed business plans; brought teams together; focused leadership and strategy; appraised directors and board performance.
Law: Built business strategies and plans; managed culture and team building projects; introduced 360 degree feedback and coaching for partners; designed development structures for associates.
IT & Business Services: Designed professional development programmes; managed due diligence, pre-merger and integration projects; developed business plans; created new business and sales strategies.
Health, Education & the Public Sector: Strategic advice, facilitation, coaching and action learning.
